UPDATE: – MDOT District Engineer Bill Jamieson reported at 11:23 a.m. Mississippi Highway 9 has opened between Sherman and U.S. 278/Mississippi 6 near Pontotoc. The opening was delayed about three hours by rainy weather.

Mississippi Department of Transportation officials said at mid-morning Monday the opening of the new Mississippi Highway 9 from Sherman to Pontotoc has been delayed by rain slowing last-minute paving.
The $87 million four-lane artery had been scheduled to open 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., but at 10:38 a.m. work continued.
District Engineer Bill Jamieson said he hopes for a mid-day opening but could not be sure if would happen unless the weather cooperates.
