Highway projects move forward

TUPELO – The Mississippi Department on Transportation has updated the public on various road projects throughout the state. The following projects are in Northeast Mississippi.
Highway 6 in Lee County
A grade, drain and bridge project is about 75 percent complete on relocated state Highway 6 from near the Natchez Trace Parkway to SR 145 south of Tupelo.
The project is slated to be finished in December. Hill Brothers Construction Co. was awarded the $29.3 million contract.
This section of the project will complete grading work on Highway 6 from state Highway 342 in Pontotoc County into Tupelo. A paving contract will follow the completion of the grading project to connect into south Tupelo.
U.S. 45/Euclautubba Road
A new interchange is about 85 percent complete at the intersection of Euclautubba Road and U.S. 45 in Saltillo.
Earthwork and bridge work is nearing completion.
The $6.97 million contract began in September 2009. The project should be completed this summer.
Highway 15 in Union County
A grade, drain, bridge and pave project is about 35 percent complete on state Highway 15 in Union County from near King’s Creek, just south of New Albany, to North Haven.
The project consists of a five-lane section that will be paved on this project.
From the north city limits to North Haven, grade, drain and bridge work will be done on the northbound lanes.
Talbot Bros. Construction and Talbot Bros. Grading won the $17.99 million contract.
Highway 30 bypass
The Highway 30 bypass is under construction from U.S. 45 to Highway 30 east of Booneville in Prentiss County. It includes the construction of an interchange with bridges over U.S. 45.
The project is expected to be finished near the end of June.
Hill Brothers Construction Co. won the $19.1 million contract.
Construction of the bridges over U.S. 45 is complete. Paving and other work is in progress. The overall project is about 85 percent complete.
Highway 45 in Lowndes
A grade, drain, bridge and pave project is about 75 percent complete on Highway 45 from four miles south of U.S. 82 to U.S. 82 in Lowndes County.
Traffic has been placed on the newly constructed southbound lanes in order to complete northbound construction.
Racon Inc. won the $17.1 million contract.
The project is slated to be finished in December.
Highway 182 bridge
A bridge replacement project is about halfway complete on state Highway 182, between U.S. 45 and Port Access Road.
Phillips Contracting Co. won the $2.9 million contract. The completion date is June 31.
U.S. 45 in Lowndes
Work has just started on U.S. 45 from Carson Road to four miles south of U.S. 82 in Lowndes County.
The project will be a grade, drain and bridge project to construct two parallel lanes. A paving project will be let when the first phase is finished. Together, the projects will complete this section of four-lanes.
Racon Inc. won the $9.4 million contract.
The project’s completion date is slated for Sept. 28, 2012.
U.S. 78 (DeSoto, Marshall)
Construction has begun on the rubblization project on U.S. 78 between the Coldwater River and the West Holly Springs exit in DeSoto and Marshall counties.
Lehman Roberts Co. was awarded the $39.97 million project, which will use a process known as rubblization to crumble the existing concrete pavement into a new foundation for a new asphalt structure on top.
In addition to the rubblization and asphalt pavement, other work, including new guardrail, signage, pavement marking and drainage repairs, will be completed in order to bring this section of U.S. 78 up to interstate standards.
All wide loads (12′ wide and wider) have been temporarily detoured onto SR 178 from the Ingrams Mill interchange to the West Holly Springs interchange.
Work is scheduled for completion in June 2013.
