Soul food and Southern food are served with equal passion at Live From the Kitchen, an eatery on Spring Street near the courthouse.

Previously the location for Downtown Eatery and Todd’s Downtown Deli, the restaurant has been open for two years.

But co-owner Bridgette Bady has made a few changes for the better.

“I want to emphasize we’re using fresh vegetables – nothing canned,” she said. “And my aunt has joined us as our cook, and she’s got some tried-and-trued recipes that everyone will love.”

Favorites include hamburger steaks, chicken spaghetti, smothered pork chops, baked chicken and fried chicken.

A lunch plate consisting of a meat, two vegetables, bread and a drink is $7 plus tax. Desserts also are offered.

Live From the Kitchen is a family run operation, and Bady said the restaurant is ideally located.

Bob Knight, the owner of Todd’s Big Star and who had Todd’s Downtown Deli, owns the building. Bady said she appreciates his help over the years.

“He’s given us so much good advice and he checks on us every day,” she said. “He really is inspiring.”

As for the location of the restaurant, “It’s been a popular spot for many years, but it also gets overlooked sometimes. I hope diners will give us a chance,” she said.
