HOPE Resource fundraiser was success
The H.O.P.E. fundraiser was a success! A “BIG” thanks goes out to the community, which so generously dug into their pockets to purchase fish/chicken plate tickets. Wonderful things can happen when a community comes together! Special thanks goes out to the Pickle Barrel Restaurant for working with us on this fundraising event. The food was delicious; it was more than enough. Yum! Also, a special thanks goes out to the H.O.P.E. Board Members for their direction and to all the supporting churches and individuals who helped with the ticket sales.
I am thankful for the opportunity to serve such a caring community. If there are questions about what is done at the center, please feel free to call (662) 256-1600 or come by. We are here to make a difference; it’s not about giving a hand-out but about giving hand-up to those who are having financial difficulties and have no other resources.
Once again, thanks for supporting H.O.P.E.

Pilgrimage is most successful
Thanks in no small part to your excellent coverage of the event, The Aberdeen Southern Heritage Pilgrimage 2009 was our most successful ever! Historic Aberdeen is especially grateful to our Mayor and Board of Aldermen’s encouragement and assistance. The street department filled potholes, and trash pick-up and street cleaning in the days prior to Pilgrimage was outstanding. The police department increased patrols during home tours, thus insuring that our safety record remains unblemished. Our fellow Aberdonians trimmed lawns, clipped shrubs, and planted flowers, allowing our lovely town to show its best face to the world.
Any expression of thanks is inadequate in the face of the contributions of Pilgrimage volunteers – hosts and hostesses, ticket sellers and collectors, our valued (and long-suffering) historic homeowners, committee chairs and members. None of this could have been achieved without you! Kudos are also owed to the organizers and participants in the ancillary events which so enrich the Pilgrimage experience – A Taste of Mississippi and First Missionary Baptist’s Gospel Concert, the Boy Scout Pancake Breakfast, Lunch at Greenleaves and A Proper English Tea, the incomparable Lies and Legends presentation, the Elkin Theater’s great Life in a Small Southern Town and The Tombigbee Pioneers’ Civil War Campground re-enactment.
But we are most grateful to our guests from near and far whose enthusiasm for Pilgrimage and obvious enjoyment of their amp”getaway weekendamp” in Aberdeen made all this effort worthwhile. Historic Aberdeen hopes to visit with y’all again in 2010.
