Hospital cited for personnel shortages

JACKSON — The national organization charged with accrediting hospitals issued citations against the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center for personnel shortages.

According to Sunday’s Clarion Ledger, the citations came after an April 26 inspection of the laboratory and radiology departments. The laboratory department is down 14 people, and the radiology department is short two radiologists and two technicians in comparison to staffing a few years ago, according to current and former employees.

Jackson VA officials acknowledged in a statement last week that the commission had surveyed the medical center but that the VA “maintained full accreditation status.”

The commission suggested the Jackson VA “consider replacing long-term contract staff in certain departments with full-time VA staff,” officials said.
