HOULKA – New Houlka’s board of aldermen are accepting bids for a new water well after repairs failed.
The well, located next to AstroLounger-Davis, has been shut down due to complaints of water containing oil or an oily residue. Residents are being served by a backup well located near the Action Glove Company.
Mayor Jo Higginbotham said representatives from Parks amp& Parks Well Service had examined the faulty well and pipe and said the majority of the pipe was corroded, allowing oil to leak into the system. The current well uses a turbo pump that will cost about $35,000 to replace.
