House approved redistricting plan

JACKSON – The Mississippi House has again approved a redistricting plan for the Legislature.
On Wednesday, the House passed the plan the Senate approved for that chamber and made minor changes to an earlier version of the House map by reducing from six to four the number of House districts that encompass Oktibbeha County.
Thus far, the Senate, led by Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant, has rejected the House plan.
While it passed the House, it was held on a motion to reconsider that cannot be disposed of until Thursday.
Then it will go to the Senate.
Republicans say the plan approved by the majority Democratic is unfair to them. Democrats counter that the plan is fair and that Republicans have substantial say in drawing the districts.
