Household hazardous waste disposal set April 13, 20

PONTOTOC – This weekend may be a good time to clean out the garage, the shed and under the kitchen sink with an eye for old cleaners, chemicals, electronics, fuels and other household hazardous waste.
That’s because on the next two Saturdays, residents of Calhoun, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Monroe, Pontotoc, and Union counties can safely dispose of such materials at household hazardous waste disposal days in Oxford (April 13) and Verona (April 20).
Products eligible for disposal include cleaners, vehicle fluids, fluorescent light bulbs, computers and other electronics, insect and rodent poisons, appliances and old medicines, among others. Materials will be collected for reuse or recycling.
Participants are encouraged to bring materials in their original containers if possible.
If coming in cars, hazardous waste should be kept tightly sealed and transported in the trunk, organizers said.
No commercial waste will be accepted at either event.
The household hazardous waste disposal days are sponsored by Three Rivers Solid Waste Authority, the City of Oxford, Lafayette County and Lee County. Each starts at 8 a.m. and continues to 3 p.m.
Next Saturday’s event will be in the parking lot south of the National Guard Armory, just off State Highway 7 at the Sisk Avenue exit.
On the 20th the event is at the Lee County Agricenter.
