HOUSTON – The Houston Board of Aldermen has agreed to apply for grant funding for emergency storm shelters through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The shelters are formed in double units with a capacity of 28 people each. Currently, they are located in several different areas of Chickasaw County and one is situated behind the Houston Fire Department.
The board discussed possible locations for the shelters, including the civic center, Gladney subdivision, the old city shop on Church Street and the old city park on Park Street.
The board voted to apply for five pairs of shelters through the grant.
