Houston police are investigating the death of a pedestrian on a local highway early Monday morning.

Houston Town Marshal Billy Voyles said a woman walking near the Highway 15 and Highway 8 interchange west of Houston was hit by two vehicles about 4:40 a.m. Monday.

“It was dark and foggy and this person walks all the time,” said Voyles. “She was hit by an 18-wheeler and then by a small car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Voyles said the incident is under investigation and no names are being released pending notification of relatives.

Voyles also said no citation has been issued or charges filed as of Monday morning.

“It looks like it was just a bad accident at this time,” said Voyles. “Our initial investigation indicates she was hit by the 18-wheeler and struck moments later by the car.”

Voyles said the driver of the car called 911 immediately.

Voyles said the accident occurred on Highway 8 as it passes under Highway 15. Authorities were on the scene for more than an hour.

Voyles said the 18-wheeler was registered with an out-of-county business. The driver of the car was a local resident.
