Houston Police make arrest in abandoned baby case

Houston police have made an arrest in a case of a newborn baby who was abandoned at the Salvation Army Thrift Store Oct. 12.
Chief Billy Voyles said a female resident was arrested Jan. 25 in connection with the case.
Voyles said the police department is currently working with the Department of Human Services and the justice system to determine charges and procedures. He is expected to announce the formal charges Thursday.
The baby, abandoned during the evening of Oct. 12 was found by a man dropping off a television as a donation at the Salvation Army store.
He reported the find to a Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Deputy and a Mississippi Highway patrolman who were eating at a restaurant across the street.
The baby was taken into custody by the Department of Human Services.
The name of the female resident has not been released.
