How to help storm victims or receive help

Red Cross calls for help
The American Red Cross needs volunteers to help the storm-stricken communities in Northeast Mississippi.
Needed are nurses and mental health professionals, as well as anyone with the time to be trained to assess damage, drive the mobile feeding trucks, facilitate client casework, answer phones and give out information.

The Red Cross also needs monetary donations and water.

Sav-A-Life offers shelter
Sav-A-Life in Amory is providing a temporary shelter for tornado victims and is also providing relief to those affected in Chickasaw County. Infant supplies are needed, including car seats and diapers, as well as disposable gloves.

Text to make donation
The Salvation Army is accepting donations via text. Anyone who would like to make a financial contribution can text the word “give” to 80888. Monetary donations are also greatly needed.

United Methodists mobilize
United Methodist disaster relief teams throughout Northeast Mississippi are mobilizing for cleanup and installation of tarps on houses with damaged roofs. Needed are tarps, button-head nails, lathing (1-inch strips of wood) and water. Materials can be dropped off at St. Luke Church, 1400 Clayton Ave. in Tupelo, and St. Andrews, 1115 Veterans Legion Drive in Amory.

City of Tupelo accepting aid
A city of Tupelo truck will be at City Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. Tupelo City Hall will take donations of bottled water and canned foods to aid in relief of surrounding communities that were damaged by recent storms. Donations can be dropped off at the south entrance of City Hall or in the lobby of the building.

Booneville collects water
The Booneville Area Chamber of Commerce will accept bottled water until 5 p.m. Monday to join efforts in helping neighbors in Smithville. Anyone with any questions may call the chamber at (662) 728-4130, or take donations to 100 W. Church St., Booneville.
The Alliance accepting aid
The Alliance will collect canned goods and bottled water to help the storm victims in the surrounding area. Donations can be dropped off The Alliance at 810 Tate St., Corinth, until 5 p.m. Monday, May 9.
