ICC to present program on fall sky

“The Galaxies of Autumn” will be presented at the Natural Science Building at the Itawamba Community College Fulton campus at 7 p.m., Nov. 30.

James Hill, director of the Rainwater Observatory and Planetarium in French Camp and a NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador, will discuss constellations in the fall sky and share information about galaxies. Participants will also learn how to recognize fall constellations from their backyard. A brief portion of the program will cover the new quarter million dollar research grade telescope coming to Mississippi for use by students and the public.

Weather permitting the observatory’s Astronomy Van will be set up after the talk for viewing deep sky objects. The van features a sophisticated telescope connected to a video camera and LCD screens to display objects that are too dim to see with the unaided eye.

The public is invited, and there is no charge for the program which is sponsored by the Mississippi NASA Space Grant Consortium and Itawamba Com munity College.
