JACKSON — When it comes to Mal’s St. Paddy’s Parade in Jackson, revelers were not only wearing the green, they were spending it.
The Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates $6.5 million would be spent this weekend at the city’s restaurants, bars, hotels and other attractions.
Marika Cackett, a spokeswoman for the bureau, told the Clarion-Ledger (http://on.thec-l.com/xRRdRL ) the 30-year-old parade has built in popularity through the years.
The agency estimates 65,000 people attended last year’s parade, up from 60,000 in 2010. Organizers hoped at least 70,000 would turn out on Saturday.
A few eager parade-goers already had their spots staked out along State Street on Friday.
