In last week’s edition, a story about the Law Enforcement Day ceremony contained incorrect information. Sam Watson, City Marshall of Okolona, was also killed in the line of duty. His family members attended the ceremony in his honor.
Fishing Rodeo June 6
The Hawg Callers Bass Fishing club will sponsor the annual Kid’s Fishing Rodeo on June 6 at Davis Lake. The event will be held from 7-11 a.m. with awards in age divisions for little anglers.
Participants should be supervised by an adult and bring their own poles, rods and bait. Refreshments will be available.

PPS deadline extended
Parents for Public Schools, a national organization that fosters improving and strengthening public schools, is offering a leadership training institutute to be held in Tupelo this fall. The institute is open to all parents, grandparents and caregivers of public school students and those who work with parents.
Deadline to apply for the seminars has been extended to May 29. For an application, go to or call 800-880-1222.
The training courses will be held as two-day seminars on Friday and Saturday at the Hancock Leadership Center in Tupelo with one seminar held in Sept., Oct. and Nov. There is no fee for the leadership sessions and participants will be housed at the Holiday Inn Express. All expenses, including lodging, meals and materials will be provided.
Boating class June 13
Boater Safety class will be held June 13 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Okolona Courthouse. All persons born after June 30, 1980 must complete a Boat and Water Safety course in order to operate any water craft on the public waters of Mississippi. Summer reading in Okolona amp& Houlka
Be Creative @ Your Library, the summer reading program, will begin in Okolona on Tuesday, June 2 and continue on each Tuesday in June at 10 a.m. June 2 activities will include registration, tattoos and Chalk a Side Walk Mural. Upcoming programs include Visiting the Outback with Dr. Bill Burdine; Kalediscope of Wonders with Scott Cagle; Origami and Japanese Culture with Yukako Yamada; Be Creative with Karen Elkins.

Registration for the summer reading program in Houlka will be held June 3, 4 amp& 5 from 2:30-5 p.m. Children K5 through sixth grade are welcome to attend.
