**Budget hearing set**

A date has been set for a public hearing on the county’s proposed budget for the 2007-2008 fiscal year.

During Monday’s meeting of the Itawamba County Board of Supervisors, the board selected Aug. 20 as the date for the public hearing. The hearing will begin at 9 a.m. in the board of supervisors’ regular meeting room, located in the Itawamba County courthouse. All citizens of Itawamba County are encouraged to attend, where they will be given time to voice their opinions.

A final decision on the proposed budget and ad valorem tax levy will be made at a separate meeting, scheduled for Sept. 4, at 9 a.m. in the board’s meeting room.

According to county administrator Gary Franks, the proposed budget for this year will remain at the present 60.05 mills and the ad valorem tax levy to fund the budget for the school district will remain at the present levy of 47.55 mills. Although the school board has yet to present Franks with a finalized budget, according to publicized information, their tax rates should remain constant as well.

“Under normal circumstances we should not have to raise the county’s taxes,” Franks told the board. “I don’t think the millage will go up.”.
