INCREASE REPORTED IN NARCOTICS CASES
TUPELO -The Lee County Vice Narcotics Task Force reported a 35 percent increase in the number of cases it worked in 1995 over the previous year.
During 1995, the Task Force made 515 arrests. Officers also seized 10 grams of crack cocaine, 5 grams of powder cocaine, 623 grams of methamphetamine and nearly 1,500 units of narcotics and depressants.
The figures were released Tuesday at a news conference held in the Lee County Board of Supervisor’s meeting room.
Maury Schuh, commander of the task force, also handed out appreciation awards to Sheriff Harold Ray Presley, Capt. Eddie McCullough and Master Sgt. James Brown of the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and Plantersville Police Officer Don King Jr.
The task force was formed in July 1994. It is made up of the sheriff department’s two full-time narcotics deputies who work with the Baldwyn, Guntown, Plantersville, Saltillo and Shannon police departments, the Natchez Trace Parkway and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.
