TUPELO – A meeting will be held Monday at the Tupelo Regional Airport terminal conference room to discuss the airport’s runway extension project.
The City Council, Mayor Jack Reed, the Tupelo Airport Authority, engineers and representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration are expected to attend the meeting, which is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m.
The airport has received FAA approval to extend the runway from 6,500 feet to 7,500 feet, but former Executive Director Terry Anderson had lobbied for an 8,000-foot runway.
A major issue has been the impact on West Jackson Street Extended, which runs perpendicular to the runway and might have to be moved if the runway is extended.
Airport officials say Monday’s meeting is strictly an “informational” meeting and no decisions will be made.
