Norris Ashley, the state’s all-time winningest high school basketball coach, has retired after 43 seasons, 41 at Union County’s Ingomar Attendance Center.
Ashley, 64, will be replaced by his son, Jonathan, who has coached the last six seasons at county rival Myrtle.
Norris Ashley’s teams won nine state champions – five boys, four girls – and one Grand Slam championship in 1978. He has a combined career record of 1,697 wins, 860 losses.
