Initial report critical of Starkville officials

STARKVILLE – A preliminary report from the Mississippi Ethics Commission cites Starkville officials for three violations of open meeting laws.
The report from the Ethics Commission cites aldermen for failing to keep minutes for public meetings, failing to provide proper notice of meetings and failing to strictly comply with the Open Meetings Act.
Ethics Commission executive director Tom Hood said a final order from the commission is pending.
City Attorney Chris Latimer says there were no violations because no action was taken at the retreat cited or other meetings.
Latimer says the city also did not keep such meetings secret because local media was notified in advance.
