Inmate: Flowers said he killed 4 in 1996

WINONA — A former prison neighbor testifies that Curtis Giovanni Flowers told him that he killed four people at a Winona furniture store in 1996.

Odell Hallmon also testified Tuesday that he lied earlier to protect Flowers, who was a friend and gave him cigarettes.

Hallmon’s statements about Flowers have flip-flopped. He once wrote to Flowers’ attorney, saying he and his sister gave false information about Flowers to collect a reward.

On Tuesday, Hallmon said he never conspired with his sister.

He said he wants to clear his conscience after being diagnosed with HIV.

Flowers could get the death penalty if his sixth trial ends in a conviction.
