JACKSON — Mississippi prison officials say an inmate who escaped from the Jefferson County Community Work Center in Fayette has been captured in New Orleans.

Thirty-two-year-old Melvin Toney left the Jefferson County facility Saturday. He was caught in New Orleans Monday night.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections says Toney was already serving a seven-and-a-half year sentence for cocaine possession in Marion County. He faces an additional five-year sentence if convicted of escape.
