PONTOTOC – The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to investigate a Friday night, head-on collision that killed three people in Pontotoc County.
At 8:35 p.m., MHP was called to the crash scene on Mississippi Highway 6, near Beulah Grove Road.
MHP Trooper Ray Hall said upon arriving, it appeared Margel Swann, 51, of New Albany, driving a 1995 Isuzu pickup, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes on Highway 6 when his vehicle collided head-on into a 2004 Honda Accord, driven by Connie Malone, 43, of Thaxton.
Swann was ejected from his vehicle and died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.
Malone received fatal injuries during the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.
There were three passengers in Malone’s vehicle. Christopher Ensey, 43, of Baldwyn, also died on the scene from injuries received in the crash. Timothy Malone, 38, of Thaxton, was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo with serious injuries. A 9-year-old child was taken by ambulance to NMMC in Tupelo with moderate injuries.
All occupants in Malone’s vehicle were wearing seat belts.
Troopers are investigating to see if alcohol contributed to Swann going the wrong way on the highway.
