INVESTIGATION INTO SUNDAY STABBING DEATH BEGUN

CALHOUN CITY – Calhoun County officials are still trying to sort out details surrounding a stabbing that occurred late Sunday and left a Calhoun City man dead.

James Frank Avent, age unavailable, died en route to the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was being airlifted.

Avent was stabbed once in his left side.

Willie C. Booker, 53, of Calhoun City has been charged with murder in connection with the incident. Bond is expected to be set for him today.

The incident occurred between 11 p.m. and midnight Sunday in the parking lot of a County Road 413 apartment complex. The apartment, which is where Booker lives, is located between Calhoun City and Derma.

Calhoun County Sheriff Billy Mac Gore said the two men got into a physical altercation. Avent had a stick and Booker had a knife.

Officials have not been able to pinpoint the cause for the altercation, Gore said.
