IUKA – An Iuka woman was killed while crossing Highway 25 on foot last night.
Debra Wilbanks, 51, of Iuka, was walking across highway 25 around 6 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of County Road 196 when a vehicle struck and killed her according to Tishomingo County Coroner Mack Wilemon.
“She lived on 196 and came down to 25 (in her car) and turned going to toward Iuka and for whatever reason she pulled off the highway into the shoulder and attempted to cross the highway on foot with a flashlight in her hand,” Wilemon said. “I don’t know if she was looking for something or lost something. Her car was sitting there idling with the lights and flashers when it happened.”
Wilemon said no foul play is suspected in the accident.
Wilbanks was pronounced dead at the scene.
