Jackson businessman Stuart Irby found dead

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Jackson businessman Stuart M. Irby has been found dead inside his Jackson home.

Officer Colendula Green, a Jackson Police Department spokeswoman, says Irby was found dead Tuesday night, apparently from a suicide.

Green told The Clarion-Ledger that emergency officials were called to his home shortly after 8 p.m. She says he was pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m.

In 2010, Irby settled a $60 million lawsuit filed by the estates of two doctors killed in a 2009 head-on collision for an undisclosed amount. Irby’s wife, Karen Irby, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for two counts of manslaughter. Former Gov. Haley Barbour recently ordered her released on a conditional clemency but it is currently on hold.

Green did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press.
