HOUSTON – A jailer with the Chickasaw County Correctional Facility was arrested Thursday for allegedly trying to get drugs into the jail, according to a Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics official.
MBN Director Marshall Fisher said officers, acting on a tip, initiated an investigation earlier this week that led to Thursday’s arrest of 21-year-old Charles E. Verell-Shelton.
Verell-Shelton, of 227 County Road 86 in Houston, faces a charge of conspiracy to transfer a controlled substance into a correctional facility in connection with the seizure of a half-pound of marijuana.
He is being held in the Calhoun County Jail under a $100,000 bond.
The North Mississippi Narcotics Task Force, the Chickasaw County sheriff’s office and the district attorney’s office assisted in the investigation.
