NETTLETON – Casey James has been tabbed with developing a young Nettleton High bunch into a competitive ballclub.
The 33-year-old coach was officially hired as Nettleton High’s head baseball coach on Thursday night. He replaces Greg Patterson.
“I think it’s only a matter of time,” James said about the young Tigers evolving into an elite team. “Most of the program is going to be freshmen and sophomores, and quite a lot of them played as eighth- and ninth-graders last season.
“I’m very excited to get a hold of these young guys.”
James, who has 10 years of coaching experience as an assistant, spent the past two seasons at Pontotoc High, serving as a varsity assistant and the head junior high coach.
Prior to coaching at Pontotoc, the Tishomingo County native was at Ridgeland High for four seasons. He also coached at South Panola (one year), Tishomingo County (two) and Louisville (one).
“It’s a really good community that provides tremendous support and has high expectations,” James said of Nettleton. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
