Jet service returning to Tupelo Regional

By Dennis Seid/NEMS Daily Journal

Commercial passenger jet service will be coming back to Tupelo Regional Airport in September, a move precipitated by the fact that Delta Air Lines is phasing out its Saab 340 turboprop fleet.

The current 15-flights-per-week schedule isn’t likely to change much, since Delta is being paid a federal subsidy to provide service between Tupelo and Memphis through July 2012.

The Saabs seat a maximum of 34 passengers, while the jets can seat 50 or more. Not sure which jet the regional carrier will be using for Delta.
