TUPELO – Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft will open its first Tupelo store May 20.
The roughly 25,000-square-foot store is opening in the former Goody’s location next to Sam’s Club on North Gloster Street.
Manager Chris Lansdell said he’s hired about 50 people for the setup phase. When the store opens, it will employ about 20 to 25, he said.
“We’re a cross between Hancock and Hobby Lobby,” he said.
As of Jan. 29, the company had 751 stores in 48 states.
The store sells fabric, quilting supplies, seasonal floral items, vacation Bible school supplies, yarn, scrapbooking materials and other items.
Jo-Ann also offers training classes on topics such as cake decorating, Lansdell said.
The store still is taking applications at the door or through SnagAJob.com.
The Tupelo store will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. It will open Sunday, but Lansdell said the hours haven’t been set yet.
The grand opening will be June 2-4.
