SPRINGVILLE – Trey Jolly ran for three touchdowns and passed for two more to lead the North Pontotoc Vikings to a 47-31 win over county rival South Pontotoc in area high school football action Friday.
For the Vikings (4-1), it was another strong offensive performance. Jolly threw five touchdown passes a week ago as North Pontotoc put up 52 points on East Oktibbeha last week.
It took Jolly half a quarter to get the Vikings on the board.
South Pontotoc (1-3) struck first when Alex Pannell passed 59 yards to Davius Wilson to lead 7-0 after the PAT with 10:06 left in the first.
Jolly responded with a 4-yard touchdown run at the 7:37 mark.
Jolly passed 43 yards to Greg Gambrell, and Marcus Green added a 76-yard scoring run, which gave the Vikings a 21-14 edge after one.
In the second quarter Jolly passed 45 yards to Ben Shannon and scored on another 4-yard run. The Cougars, meanwhile, got only a 27-yard field goal from Matt Collums and trailed 35-17 at the break.
The Vikings would score two more times – a Jolly 5-yard run in the third quarter and a Jeremy Wilkes 2-yard run in the fourth – before the Cougars closed the gap in the last 4 minutes with TD runs of 14 and 17 yards by Von Bean.
