GREENWOOD — A Mississippi lawmaker says a federal broadband Internet grant should come to the Delta.
Democratic state Sen. David Jordan of Greenwood says he has asked the U.S. Department of Commerce to consider the Delta’s needs over a plan submitted by Republican Gov. Haley Barbour to spend the grant in 11 northeast Mississippi counties.
The government plans to release $4 billion in loans and grants in a program to expand broadband access in unserved and underserved areas. The program also will help consumers with better information about services they can use.
Jordan tells the Greenwood Commonwealth that several businesses and industries support bringing broadband to the Delta.
