HATTIESBURG – A federal judge has granted Disability Rights Mississippi temporary access to the Forrest County Juvenile Detention Center to investigate reported abuse claims and monitor whether disabled children are being treated properly.
U.S. District Judge Keith Starrett on Tuesday signed the order, which was an agreement between the detention center and the group.
The organization filed a complaint March 7 seeking access to the facility. In the filing, the group referenced video footage showing alleged abuse that included youth being punched repeatedly.
