Judge pulls out of Salts decision

ABERDEEN – Senior U.S. District Judge Glen Davidson won’t decide on a new trial and bond for convicted embezzler Marie Salts and her husband, Michael.
Monday, Davidson signed his own order of recusal. Judge W. Allen Pepper Jr. of Greenville was reassigned to the case.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Jerry A. Davis last month wrote a scathing, 43-page report citing conflicts of interest in their 2005 trial and criticized Circuit Judge Thomas Gardner III for allowing them to occur, resulting in the Saltses’ convictions and prison sentences.
Davis also recommended vacating their convictions and a new trial for the former Prentiss County funeral home operators.
Davidson did not specify why he removed himself from the case.
