OXFORD — An indictment read in Lafayette County Circuit Court alleges former University of Mississippi student John Howard Strickland Jr. was under the influence of several drugs just before a 2012 wreck in which two other Ole Miss students died.

The Oxford Eagle reports that John Howard Strickland Jr. was not present during an arraignment this week in circuit court. He remains free on $35,000 bond. His attorney has already entered a not guilty plea on Strickland’s behalf.

A judge has set the case for trial during the July term of circuit court.

Strickland is charged with two counts of aggravated DUI in the deaths of Ole Miss students John and Sarah Wheat, a brother and sister from Compton, Md. The accident occurred Oct. 27, 2012, on Mississippi Highway 6.
