Judge to hold hearing on mental disability claim

COLUMBUS – A Lowndes County judge will hear arguments from attorneys for a man charged with capital murder who claims he is mental disabled and should not be executed.

Prosecutors have said they will seek the death penalty when 20-year-old Nathaniel Lee Major Wilder stands trial in the 2008 shooting death of Cornelius Cunningham.

Circuit Judge Lee Howard will hear the Wilder’s motion on April 22.

Prosecutors say Cunningham was shot in the head while sitting outside his Columbus apartment on Sept. 18, 2008.
