TUPELO – The Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance is conducting an inquiry into Lee County Justice Court Judge Rickey Thompson, sources say.

The Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance has scheduled a Dec. 19 hearing concerning an inquiry into a judge, and at least four Lee County officials close to the county’s Justice Court have been subpoenaed to appear before the commission to offer testimony.

Thompson said he cannot comment on whether he is under investigation.

He was most recently involved in controversy concerning his misdemeanor drug court, which was decertified after a letter, dated Oct. 15, from Mississippi’s Administrative Office of Courts informed county officials the court’s certification expired in March.

Thompson said he has submitted paperwork applying for the court’s recertification and is waiting for a response.

He also said he has not been summoned to appear before the commission.

The Commission on Judicial Performance is charged with investigating allegations of judicial misconduct and disability.

They make recommendations, based on their findings, to the Mississippi Supreme Court.
