Judicial panel urges sanctions against Lee’s Thompson

TUPELO – Lee County Justice Court Judge Rickey W. Thompson should be sanctioned for multiple improper conduct, the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance says.

Thompson’s punishment will be up to the Mississippi Supreme Court.

MCJP asks MSSC to publicly reprimand Thompson, suspend him for 30 days without pay and fine him $2,000.

It’s not known when the court will make a decision on the case.

Recommendations against Thompson come from a just-released report.

Thompson of Shannon is the District 4 justice court judge. He is accused of “willful misconduct in office” and conduct as a judge, which “brings the judicial office into disrepute.”

Thursday, he could not be reached for comment.

He is seeking re-election this year without opposition.

The complaints against Thompson go back nearly two years, the MCJP report states.
