HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — June 19 is the latest trial date for a student from Louisiana who is accused of beating up a freshman at the University of Southern Mississippi.
The Hattiesburg American (http://hatne.ws/HyakpZ) reports that Chase LaGarde of Bush is charged in Forrest County Circuit Court with aggravated assault on 19-year-old Stuart Ramsey.
Ramsey was beaten in a parking lot next to the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house late on Dec. 4, 2010. LaGarde was a fraternity member.
Ramsey’s injuries included a concussion and a broken hand. His father, Tom Ramsey, says he has recovered.
The fraternity chapter was shut down. University spokesman Van Arnold has said it reopened the national fraternity reduced the chapter to “25 outstanding leaders.”
