HED: Youth caught with firearm near elementary school
AMORY – A 12-year-old was caught Friday with a concealed gun near an elementary school.
Amory police received a call that a young male was carrying a pistol in the area of Easthaven, just south of the East Amory Elementary School.
Officers located a 12-year-old who had a firearm concealed, later found to be a BB gun.
“It looks awful real,” said Police Chief Ronnie Bowen. “It’s a good thing he wasn’t waving it around in our presence or it would have gotten ugly real quick.”
The juvenile was detained at the Amory Police Department and transported to the Monroe County Youth Detention Center by order of the Monroe County Youth Court. He is charged with exhibiting a weapon in a threatening manner.
