Kidnapping results in 11-year sentence

djournal_Court-NewsCORINTH – A Corinth man has pleaded guilty in Alcorn County Circuit Court to kidnapping and will serve 11 years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, according to the Daily Corinthian.

Joseph Douglas “Doug” Tapp, 32, was sentenced by Judge Jim Pounds to serve 30 years, with 19 years suspended and 11 years to serve, followed by five years of probation. He also was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.

The Daily Journal reported in February that Tapp was arrested after a Feb. 23, incident in which he allegedly shoved a woman into his vehicle after she confronted him and accused him of taking tools from the bed of her pickup truck. The incident happened outside the Dollar Tree store on South Harper Road. He then drove behind the nearby Walmart store and pushed her out of his vehicle and tossed out the tools before trying to flee.
