Kosciusko statue loses hand

KOSICUSKO — The Laura Mitchell Kelly statue located in Kosciusko’s City Cemetery is missing her hand.

The statue is considered a local tourist attraction.

The Star-Herald of Kosciusko reports local residents are working to raise money to fix the statue. They say restoration may cost $2,500.

Local residents believe the damage was done by someone climbing up on the statue.

The story goes that Laura Mitchell Kelly’s husband sent photos of his bride in her 1890s wedding dress to a sculptor in Italy where the statue was made and placed in the family burial plot.
