Kossuth man’s death likely accidental

KOSSUTH – The death of a Kossuth man last weekend is believed to be an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Alcorn County Sheriff’s Investigator Reggie Anderson.

Thomas Lee Sanders Jr., 54, was pronounced dead at his Highway 2, Kossuth home by Coroner Jay Jones after 8:30 p.m. Sept. 21, when he was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the thigh.

A visiting friend had gone outside the home and returned to find Sanders slumped over, and a Derringer 9mm handgun was at the scene, Anderson said.

Additional information is expected from the state crime lab, Anderson said.
