OXFORD — The Lafayette County School Board has adopted a resolution to appoint a superintendent of schools when Mike Foster elected term ends on Jan. 1, 2012.
The change brings the school district in line with a 2009 law that requires the Lafayette County superintendent to be appointed.
Lafayette County is one of 65 districts in the state with elected superintendents. The superintendent of the Oxford School District is appointed by the school board.
Foster has said he is undecided whether he will apply for the appointed position when it becomes available in 2012.
