Lafayette County woman dies in Thanksgiving Day fire

djournal-fire-stockTULA – A 22-year-old woman died Thursday morning when the home she shared with other family members caught fire.

Lafayette County Deputy Sheriff Jarrett Bundren said several volunteer fire departments were unable to save Jachlcka Knox from the blaze at 91 County Road 436 in the southeast part of the county.

One relative was checking on a neighbor next door when the fire broke out, Bundren said, and two others were able to escape the flames, one of whom he believes was hospitalized with injuries.

Investigators from the Sheriff’s Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are working to determine the fire’s cause.
