Lafayette man dies after golf cart collision

OXFORD – James R. Davis, 53, died after a car collided with his golf cart late Wednesday night.

Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy said Davis and a passenger had just checked on fishing lines in the lake at the Wellsgate subdivision west of Oxford around 11 p.m. when a car struck the corner of the cart.

Davis was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi, where he was pronounced dead. The passenger, whom Kennedy did not identify, was admitted to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Lafayette County Sheriff Department is investigating the incident.
