Late punt return lifts Itawamba at Mississippi Delta

MOORHEAD – The Itawamba Indians evened their MACJC North Division record at 1-1 by edging the Mississippi Delta Trojans 21-20 on Thursday night.
ICC (2-3) used a 75-yard punt return by sophomore Darius Slay with 14:17 remaining to edge the Trojans (0-5, 0-2). Indians’ freshman placekicker Will Goodwin broke the 20-20 tie with the decisive point-after.
The visitors trailed 20-7 at halftime, but freshman tailback DeShawn McGaughy sparked the Indians at the end of the third period with a 14-yard touchdown run and finished the night with 57 yards on nine carries. Keon McGaughy added 72 yards on 14 carries and added 56 yards and a TD on two catches.
Delta held a 354-300 edge in total offense.
