LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS TO BE HONORED

Several law enforcement officers from Northeast Mississippi will be honored at an awards ceremony Tuesday for writing between 100 and 500 tickets to motorists who were stopped for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The award is one way state officials recognize officers’ efforts in combating drunk driving. The tickets were written during the calender year of 1995.

All told, 50 law enforcement officers from 14 departments across the state will be on hand at the ceremony which will be held at Primo Northgate Convention Center in Jackson.

Officers from this area who have been notified they are to receive the award include Tupelo police officers Larry Baker, Marty Mask and Joe Meeks of the Metro DUI unit. Mississippi Highway patrol officers from District 3 in Batesville who are scheduled to receive the award include: Peter Clinton, Gerald O. Cooper, Timothy L. Douglas, Christopher Gillard, Charlie L. Hudson, Juan Jones, Milton R. Williams, Michael R. Wilkie and the late Bobby L. Wells, who was killed in 1995 during a traffic stop.

Information about troopers from District 4 in New Albany and District 5 in Starkville was not available.
