The first weekend of the state’s “Over the Limit, Under Arrest” campaign resulted in nearly 5,000 tickets written across the state and one accident fatality.
According to John Kalahar, public affairs director for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, state troopers as well as county and local law enforcement agencies used roadblocks and stepped up patrols to keep drunken drivers off the road.
Among the citations, 86 were for DUI, six for drugs and six were felony arrests. The bulk of the citations, 4,435, were speeding and other similar traffic violations.
“Over the Limit, Under Arrest” campaign will continue through Labor Day weekend.
