Lawsuit on hold against Pontotoc school district

By NEMS Daily Journal

OXFORD – Student Derek Harris’ lawsuit against the Pontotoc County School District won’t go to trial as scheduled April 19.
Friday, the case was continued “until further notice,” court records show.
Harris and his parents, Robert and Phyllis Harris of Thaxton, sued the school district and its superintendent, Ken Roye, in January 2009. They claimed their then-eighth-grade son suffered damage to his educational career and defamation of his character when he was accused of tampering with a school computer.
Phyllis Harris also claimed she lost her job because she protested her son’s abuse and suspension.
The reason for the continuance was not known late Friday, although an order of that kind often precedes announcement of a settlement.
